4 Learning Aim D

Introduction:

This document will serve as an evaluation of the pre-production of the short movie Brown Mansion, presented by the production company Media Moon.

It will evaluate how well the pre-production process went, relative to the vision put forth for Brown Mansion, and the workflow process of Media Moon, stating the development, augmentation, and limitations faced throughout Pre-Production.

Elements:

Logistics: we implored usage of excel spreadsheets and word to help plan pre-production documents. We did have deadlines set up, which we did not comply with (further expanded on in the time management section).

Finance: we went through production with the goal of quality outcomes, but also cheaper production costs. The short movie film was thought of as an animation, making the financing of it more straightforward and cost effective.

Creative Process: the creative aspects of this project were the most practical and straightforward. The creative process was efficient and of quality.

Project Management:

Personal Management: we did not have many personnel to help during pre-production, but the help of acquaintances was used, with proper respect and professionalism, while keeping a sort of open-endedness while dealing with them.

Resource Management: we had some trouble managing resources because of financial restrictions.

We managed to get past those by way of relying on equipment owned by the school, or outsourcing help from friends, family, and colleagues.

In the future we will better improve the management of resources by way of having done more planning and better financing ahead of time to ensure we have all the resources needed.

Time Management: time restraints were a major problem, as deadlines were passed, time costs weren’t measured and met, and the overall schedule was not used proper.

Professional Practice: we did not always abide by professional standards within the management and documentation. More care will be taken in the future to ensure only professional practice is undertaken.

Monitoring Progress: we kept deadlines and lists on what needed to be done when. And while the lists were used effectively, the deadlines were not met. We hope to improve timing.

Risk Management: we looked into some of the risks that may come during production, but as we are doing an animation short movie film, the risks were minor.

Crisis Management: time crisis was a major issue as stated. We met it and managed it by crunch periods and imploring a better workflow for the work process.

Maintaining Documentation: the process of documentation had its set of setbacks, including difficulties while working with certain templates or certain software hindrances.

Some documentation was easier to do with premade templates, but others were easier to do with my own made templates, or by adjusting existing templates.

Next time, we will make more efficient use of the templates in documentation, as this project has given light to some adjustments.

Problems/Difficulties with Project Management: the main issue was scheduling and planning. Creative aspects ran smoothly, but the time frame to do that work was not set properly on our end. We will work to improve it in the future.

Improving in Future Production:

Overall, the main through way of improvement taken would be by better managing time frames and deadlines, ensuring the creative process stays not only imaginative, but also efficient, while at the same time keeping professional in pre-production aspects that require it.
